The Nordic Baltic Ballet Competition 2019

Rules and Regulations

Dates:
The competition 2019 will take place in Falun, Sweden, 19-23rd of March at Kulturhuset tio14 in Falun.

Deadline for registration:
4th of March 2019  (deadline  for reserves is the 6th of March 2019)

Registration Fee: 
The registration fee is 1.150 SEK including a daily lunch and dinner buffet at Grand Hotel, but the hotel room must booked by you and paid separately. The registration fee will only be repaid in case of sickness or injury. A doctor’s certificate is required. The refund will be paid by Stora Daldansen.

Hotel is booked by you directly at grand.falun@firsthotels.se from 530 sek per/person in double rooms. Each officially entered contestant will receive a rebate of SEK 2.000 deducted from the hotel cost. You must book the room in the name of the contestant to receive the deduction. Rooms are reserved up until the fifth of March 2019 – after this, booking will be after availability. Accomodation for teachers and family members must also be booked directly with the hotel in conjunction with the Contestant.

Competition regulations
NBBC is a ballet competition in Falun, Sweden, for Nordic and Baltic ballet students between the ages of 14 and 19.
The competitor must be a citizen of OR attend a ballet school in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania.

There are two categories in the competition:
•Junior division- dancers between the ages of 14 and 16. You have to be 14 years old by the 1st of March in the Competition year, to qualify in this category. The competitor must be no younger than 14 and no older than 16 years old.

• Senior division- dancers between the ages of 17 and 19. You have to be 17 years old by the 1st of March in the Competition year, to qualify in this category. The competitor must be no younger than 17 and no older than 19 years old by the 1st of March.
Candidates are not allowed to be employed professionally at the time of the competition. Apprentice positions are allowed.

The candidates must represent their ballet school or academy. A national selection will be held in each country. A maximum of 12 competitors from each Nordic country are allowed to participate, and a total of 12 from the three Baltic countries. The national juries can decide to reduce the number of participants. If a country chooses not to fill its quota then NBBC has the right to invite another of the Nordic or Baltic countries involved  to add more participants as the organizer has the right to maximize the number of participants and structure the program.

Required repertoire for the junior division:
Two variations from the existing, known classical repertory with appropriate music: maximum length 2 minutes and 30 seconds per variation

As an alternative you may present one classical variation plus one contemporary solo. ( Same stipulations apply for the contemporary solo as for the Seniors contemporary solo)

1st prize: 500 €

2nd prize: 350 €

3rd prize: 200 €

Required repertoire for the senior division:
One variation from the existing, known classical repertory with appropriate music: maximum length 2 minutes and 30 seconds
and
One contemporary solo: no point shoes and including floor work, maximum length 2 minutes and 45 seconds

1st prize: 500 €

2nd prize: 350 €

3rd prize: 200 €

The Jury:
The jury consists of Nordic and European ballet experts. The decision of the jury is final.

The International Classical Dance Competition in Grasse, France

NBBC collaborates with the International Classical Dance Competition in Grasse, France. The jury in Falun can choose a maximum of three competitors from the NBBC to participate in the international competition in Grasse.
If the Nils-Åke Häggbom Award is given out then one more competitor is invited to  compete in Grasse with the same benefits.
The Grasse participants are chosen both from the junior and senior categories. Dancers chosen for Grasse will have their transportation, lodging and fees paid by NBBC. Meals are not included.
In Grasse the participants will compete with the same variation or solo as in Falun. In addition, the junior competitor will need a contemporary solo and the senior competitor will need a third variation chosen from a classical repertoire list which is available at: http://www.ballet-med.com/gen.php3?id_rubrique=142
The next competition in Grasse will take place in October  2019.

Liability:
When registered for the NBBC the participant gives the organizer all rights to publish information on their participation, and gives the organizer the right to use photos/film in public media/internet and in the competition program without any compensation to the participant. The organizer is not responsible for injuries that might take place during the competition.
