Madeleine Onne started as the Artistic Director of the Finnish National Ballet in August 2018. She was employed as the Artistic Director of the Royal Swedish Ballet in 2002–08 and as the Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Ballet in 2009–17. In 1996, she founded a group called Stockholm 59° North – Soloists of the Royal Swedish Ballet which she managed until 2002. Between 2017–18, Onne served as the Director of the Houston Ballet Academy.

In 1978, Madeleine Onne graduated as a ballet dancer from the Royal Swedish Ballet school and was engaged as a dancer by the Royal Swedish Ballet. Onne was appointed as a soloist in 1981 and as a principal dancer in 1984. She has also worked as a soloist at the Dallas Ballet in 1985–86 and visited countries such as Germany, Norway, Denmark, the Soviet Union and Spain as well as the United States, Canada, Cuba, China, Japan and Israel.

Madeleine Onne has been decorated many times receiving, for example, the Swedish royal medal Litteris et Artibus and the title of Royal Court Dancer. In 2009, she was awarded The Royal Swedish Opera’s Gold Medal of Honour in recognition of her work as a principal dancer and artistic director at the Royal Swedish Ballet.

Onne has served as a juror for several international ballet competitions, such as Benois de la Dance in Moscow, YAGP in Tokyo and New York, Prix de Lausanne, and the Helsinki International Ballet Competition 2012. She has given master classes in many places, including the Beijing Dance Academy, YAGP in Tokyo and Jacob’s Pillow
